Another music video to obsess over? How lucky are you! There are a few key reasons why I’m so captivated by this. First, let’s talk about the music itself. This song, and really, the entire album, marked a complete departure from everything I had come to expect from Pixie. It subverted all my expectations in the best of ways. It has become one of my favorite Pixie Post tracks. So if this song is your introduction to Pixie Post, I encourage you to listen to one of the very first songs I ever heard from Pixie (Right below this) and discover just how different this project truly is.
What a wild departure! There’s an entire album like this, complete with fun commercial breaks. It’s a full throwback concept, and wow, was it a blast to listen to, but the VIDEO! It feels like it was made just for me, even though it wasn’t. My friend Sonic Squirrel and I had worked on a few cool music/video projects for the indie music hunt (They often play in the background of my current streams), creating mashups of old movies or cartoons with indie tracks. So when I saw this video, I was probably way more excited than the average viewer. I have a certain affinity to Sonic Squirrel videos.
I love when these things hit me on multiple levels. After a few years in this indie music world, I’m still amazed watching artists come together to create, reinvent, and give life to things that might never have existed without a few chance encounters.
I don’t know if Pixie would have gone in this direction if so many paths hadn’t crossed. I certainly don’t know if this video would even exist without those moments. I get to watch it all from a very strange perspective. I feel a kind of pride I usually reserve for my own children. It borders on hubris at times, but honestly, I still sit here in disbelief at this whole environment that exists.
What a cool thing to come out of this community.
