Bio:

Kian Dray is a sonic architect and multi-instrumentalist whose raw, introspective energy defines much of the experimental output under the Abrasive Monologues label. Working entirely behind the scenes, Kian crafts immersive soundscapes from layers of distortion, ambient decay, and fragmented melody—balancing abrasive textures with moments of fragile beauty.

About this release

This is a concept album I am working on inspired by Richard Linklater's 1996 film SubUrbia.

Synopsis:

It is 1997, in the suburban part of Dallas, Texas. Four years out of college, unsure of where he wants to go next in his life, he finds himself in a constant void of uncertainty. He has a gifted mind, and a great deal of talent, which he feels is being wasted over time. He is working three different jobs, a different shift on each, for four days a week, to get by, the weekends being the only free time he gets to hang out around his local convenience store with longtime friends he's known since middle school.

He lives alone in his own apartment, no girlfriend, no family, and no one to turn to for advice, except that from his friends, which often tends to be unreliable at best.

He is just like us. Still trying to work out who he is in an increasingly insane world, with an increasingly hostile rhetoric, it would seem. Searching endlessly for a miracle, a monolith of hope, an answer to the questions long brewing in one's mind. Unbeknownst to him, a very special someone is about to change his life, for better or worse. Time shall tell…
