About this track

I wrote this song originally in 2022 while I was living in Texas… The way I write is real-time and by ear usually. That goes for lyrics as well. I play the song and I just say what comes up for me. I didn't realize until recently that this song was my speaking the truth of myself into the void. For decades I suffered from very difficult to treat depression… Or so I thought. This song lit the match that made me want to try to work towords something different and it took me a while to get around to it…

But I finally feel inspired.

What I thought was depression, and subsequently, why it was so difficult to treat, wasn't depression at all. There was nothing wrong with my brain chemistry. I was suffering from long term CPTSD and a decent case of autistic burnout. Working through one, helped relieve the other and while I'm not massively different on the other side… I do feel inspired.

It seemed like the right time to go back to the beginning with this voice. The one I speak with now.

Jonathan Hadley

Bio:

Jonathan Hadley is a musician and producer whose work explores atmosphere, texture, and emotionally direct songwriting. He is the founder of Abrasive Monologues, an independent artist collective and label, and releases music both under his own name and through collaborative projects within the roster.

Jon Hadley writes music like memories… out of order, half-lit, and sharper than it should be. As the founder of Abrasive Monologues, he builds sonic and narrative spaces where friction is never a flaw… it’s the point. His work moves between music, philosophy, and narrative realism, often circling themes of cost, love, and structural truth. When he’s not writing, he’s architecting systems that let other artists do the same… louder, cleaner, and with more control than the industry ever wanted to give them.

Lyrics

I lied when I said I'm alright
Bend and flex to hold tight
Compromise and break

When the atom splits tonights
Its going to take away my pain
The fallout might be gone
But the isotope remains

Well theres
One thing about shadows
When you burn them in
They stay
Fateful stories on the walls
Dreams I forgot to chase

Sometimes I

Just want to be inspired
To let go
Just want to be inspired
To want more

I lied when I said I'm alright
Bend and flex to hold tight
Compromise and break

When the atom splits tonight
It's going to take away my pain

I lied when I said I'm alright
Bend and flex to hold tight
Compromise and break

Fold my soul like origami
Crease it tightly so it stays
The fallout might be gone
But the isotope remains

And I hold on to all my trauma
It leaves a metal taste
Just don't know who I'd be
If I let it slip away

Sometimes I

Just want to be inspired
(Sometimes I)
To let go
Just want to be inspired
(Sometimes I)
To trust more

I lied when I said I'm alright
Bend and flex to hold tight
Compromise and break
One thing about shadows
When you burn them in
They stay

Fateful stories on the walls
Dreams I forgot to chase

Sometimes I

Sometimes I

Sometimes I

Just want to be inspired
To love more
Just want to be inspired
To trust more

I lied when I said I'm alright
